December 27, 2011

Well, Christmas 2011 has gone into the history books. I sure hope that 2012 will be kinder to me and my family. This year we lost two of our most treasured people, Mom and Diana. There is a big hole in my life right now. I miss them both so much.

I have been thinking of New Year's Resolutions and thinking how I didn't keep even one of them last year.

I haven't sewn at all this year and blame it on making a resolution to finish all my UFO's. This year I am going to change that. I am going to finish one UFO for each New Project I make. I have new projects lined up and ready to start.

I am going to finish knitting my lavender sweater this next month.

Halloween 2011

I have been sitting here thinking about my family who have left us and all the fun things we did on Halloween through the years. We never had purchased costumes, we made up our own. My sister, Diana, loved to dress up in scary costumes and scare all the kids. I think it was her favorite holiday. There were always popcorn balls, caramel apples and lots of pumpkin cookies at her house.

I remember one year when we were young, Daddy dressed up in an old army parka, floppy overshoes and an Indian mask and wig with braids. He took a gunny sack (remember those?) and went to the Agency Superintendent's house and knocked on the door. The superintendent's wife came to the door and called her husband. She told Daddy to come in. He went in and sat down. Daddy didn't say a word, he just held out his gunny sack. They kept putting candy in the sack and he'd hold it out again. He finally left. He went around the whole neighborhood doing the same thing at all the BIA employees houses. The next day everyone was talking about the strange man that came to their house. Daddy really got a good laugh at all the things people said about him, then the next day he wore the same costume to work. LOL.

I am so fortunate to have had such good parents. They loved us and took care of us. We had lots of fun and as a result, I have a lot of really good memories.

October 12th

Cataract removed on right side. Scheduled for left eye on the 20th. I can see far away now, but still need glasses for computer and up close work. I am cutting out a Halloween wall hanging and hope to finish it tonight. Amazing what clearer eyesight does. I lost my camera, so I can't post pictures of anything until I get a new camera.

I'm working on handquilting one of my UFO's. I'm hoping to wipe out at least half of them by New Years 2012.

September 19th, 2011

Wow, so much has happened since I last posted I don't even know where to start. My heart has been broken twice, My baby sister, Diana, and my Mama both left us and made their journey to the Spirit World. My whole world has turned upside down. I hope that I can find solace in writing about my life one day at a time. Today I just couldn't get dressed and go to work. I stayed home and embroidered and played Farmville for hours. I just want my Mom to talk to. I really miss Diana. I talked to her everyday and her leaving has left a huge gap in my life. I guess I need to find some compelling goals to center me and try to get myself back in balance. I have started sewing again, but not compulsively like before. On Friday I have an appointment with Dr. Hafner to start the process for getting my cataracts removed. I am looking forward to the day I can clearly see again.

March 24 Post

Wow! Has it really been a month since I logged in and posted here? I guess it has taken me a long time to finish any projects. I am finishing the binding on my UFO #5 and will post a picture when I am done. Not much going on in my world......work, home, work, home.

February 28th Post

This is a picture of the mug rug and mug hug I made for a gift this week-end. These are so much fun to make. They are fast and easy and you can just make it up as you go.

Sunday, February 27, 2011

I've been busy making postcards and mug rugs. I also tried a pattern by Pat Sloan of a Mug Hug. It is a holder for take out coffee, kind of like the sleeve they give you at Starbucks to keep you from burning your hand on the cup. The one I make was so easy and I really liked it. I'll post a picture when I get some batteries for my camera tomorrow. In the meantime the pictures are of three postcards I made for a swap I joined.

February 14th

I finished these two mug rugs for a swap I am in. They had to go out today because they were to an international address. First try at something like this. They were quick and fun to make. Could make nice gifts.

I finished two of the five fabric postcards I'm working on. They went to international addresses so I got them off today.

UFO #2 Done

I made the cross-stitch cardinals last year to sew into a journal cover. I finished it finally.

This week has been awful. Our vehicles are all down and we are going to be hitching a ride to work and school for awhile. Why are there no garages close by that can fix cars? I'm going to see if I can work from home for a few days.

UFO #1 Done

I finished this quilt top to send to Toni for three girls who lost their Mom. She asked for orphan blocks, but I volunteered to send her a quilt top. Just now got time to do it. These are the remainder of my birthday blocks from QOR in 2006. I made a quilt for my youngest GD from the other 20 blocks.

It's a New Year

I can't believe it is already 2011. Where does time go? What are my resolutions this year? I have 21 UFO's and I need to lose 21 pounds. I guess that is one resolution I need to make-- finish UFO's and lose weight. I made it through the holidays without gaining any weight, so now I just need to figure out how to lose again. I want to quit smoking this year, too. I am making a new journal for myself and am resolving to write in it each day. Four resolutions....sacred number, so I guess I'll stop there.

I'm working on a quilt top to send to Toni and should be done by this p.m. I finished another postcard to send to Judy, since her's got ruined by USPS. Today I also plan to finish my journal, my three calendar blocks that I didn't finish last year and put the binding on candlemats I made at Christmas.

I'm keeping my box of Christmas fabric by the sewing machine and plan to use it up this year. In other words, I'm doing Christmas sewing until it is all gone. I want to buy new fabric next Christmas. It looks like it will be Christmas 365 days this year. LOL.

Happy 2011 to everyone. Peace, love, health, happiness and prosperity to you all.
