I have been sitting here thinking about my family who have left us and all the fun things we did on Halloween through the years. We never had purchased costumes, we made up our own. My sister, Diana, loved to dress up in scary costumes and scare all the kids. I think it was her favorite holiday. There were always popcorn balls, caramel apples and lots of pumpkin cookies at her house.
I remember one year when we were young, Daddy dressed up in an old army parka, floppy overshoes and an Indian mask and wig with braids. He took a gunny sack (remember those?) and went to the Agency Superintendent's house and knocked on the door. The superintendent's wife came to the door and called her husband. She told Daddy to come in. He went in and sat down. Daddy didn't say a word, he just held out his gunny sack. They kept putting candy in the sack and he'd hold it out again. He finally left. He went around the whole neighborhood doing the same thing at all the BIA employees houses. The next day everyone was talking about the strange man that came to their house. Daddy really got a good laugh at all the things people said about him, then the next day he wore the same costume to work. LOL.
I am so fortunate to have had such good parents. They loved us and took care of us. We had lots of fun and as a result, I have a lot of really good memories.

October 12th
Cataract removed on right side. Scheduled for left eye on the 20th. I can see far away now, but still need glasses for computer and up close work. I am cutting out a Halloween wall hanging and hope to finish it tonight. Amazing what clearer eyesight does. I lost my camera, so I can't post pictures of anything until I get a new camera.
I'm working on handquilting one of my UFO's. I'm hoping to wipe out at least half of them by New Years 2012.
